Kohli, Pandya And Bumrah Help India To Register A Sensational Win Over England

It’s time to sing Chak De Ho Chak De India! for Virat Kohli and young Indian cricket team that bounced back in the 5-match series against England with a historic 203-run win at Trent Bridge. Well, both the bowlers and batsmen gave some marvellous performance throughout the test match while skipper Kohli smashed a brilliant 23rd Test century it was Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya who took 5 wickets in each innings to help India clinch a famous victory in the 3rd test match in Nottingham.

India won the match on the first session of the 5th day as the Indian bowlers took all 10 English wickets and bundled the hosts out for 317. While England were 23 for no loss at the end of the 3rd day the target of 521 runs set by the Indian cricket team was an uphill task and the result was that Joe Root’s men had finally lost the whole match.

After Indian batsmen failed to deliver at Lord’s, Indian batsmen didn’t commit the same mistakes when the opening duo of KL Rahul (23) and Shikhar Dhawan (35) displayed character to put on 60 runs for the 1st wicket.

While Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed on the 1st day, skipper Virat Kohli (97) and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (81) added 159 runs for the 4th wicket to put India in control.

Pandya who had faced a lot of criticism for his performance in the last match made good use of the conditions to pick up the wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root. Later, he made a great comeback when England was bowled out for 161 after taking a 168-run lead.

While England needed its bowlers to strike early in the second innings the duo of Rahul (36) and Dhawan (44) had put up a strong 60-run opening stand to consolidate the lead. Meanwhile, it was Pujara’s dogged defence combined with Virat Kohli’s strokeful elegance that had set a set the platform for a big lead for the tourists on the 3rd day. When England broke the 113-run stand with Pujara being dismissed for 72, India’s lead was nearing 400.

Further, India gave a perfect start on the 4th morning by sending off English openers quickly. Meanwhile, England skipper Joe Root and Ollie Pope tried their best but couldn’t repair the damage.

Meanwhile, England’s  Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes who had put on 169 runs for the 5th wicket lost out to Bumrah and Pandya while Ravichandran Ashwin took the wicket of James Anderson in the 3rd over of the 5th day as India finally won the match. Now the 2 teams will play against each other in the 4th Test at Southampton from August 30, 2018.

Now Virat Kohli who was awarded the Player of the match award dedicated the massive win to Kerala flood victims. He said, ” We would like to dedicate this victory to Kerala flood victims. They’re going through a tough time there and this is the minimum we can do on our part. The victory was much needed to keep the series alive, the credit goes to the entire dressing room. We didn’t panic. We were outplayed in only one game out of the last five, and that was at Lord’s.”

Though England lead the series with 2-1, it will be interesting to see whether Virat Kohli’s men can chase the dream of making a come back from 2 Tests down to win a series.
