18-year-old Prithvi Shaw Earns His Maiden Test Call-up For Indian Team

Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) has just announced India’s 18-man squad for the last 2 Tests against England, and it is Prithvi Shaw and Andhra batsman Hanuma Vihari who have finally made it to the Indian squad for the last 2 Tests against England at Oval and Southampton.

Well, the 18-year-old Mumbai opener is a perfect replacement for Murali Vijay who has been dropped after a poor performance in the 1st 2 tests. Further, Vihari has been picked more as a cover for skipper Virat Kohli.

Meanwhile, Murali Vijay, India’s regular opener in the 1st 2 tests has been dropped while left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav too failed to find a place in the squad.

It seems that the selection committee doesn’t want to take a chance with Kohli’s fitness situation even if he displays a little sign of discomfort while scoring runs.

MSK Prasad, the chairman of India’s selection panel have even consulted with India A coach Rahul Dravid before taking this big decision of promoting the youngsters to the big league.

Though Shaw is not expected to make his debut in Southampton with India’s opening partnership looking strong with a stand of 60 during each innings of their win over England yet Shaw’s inclusion in the squad can create pressure on both KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan.

Well, Prithvi is national under-19 cricket team captain who plays for Middle Income Group (MIG) Cricket Club in Mumbai. Prithvi Shaw who is a right-hand batsman and the right-arm off-spin bowler was the captain of Rizvi Springfield High School and the Mumbai under-16 team too. Further, he has scored 7 centuries in 14 matches in first-class cricket. Moreover, he has been repeatedly compared with legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for his batting skills.

Here’s India’s squad for 4th and 5th test against England, Check it out:

Virat Kohli (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Karun Nair, Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Hanuma Vihari

It will be interesting to see if 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw will make his debut against England contribute for his team. Well, the question over here is whether the current Indian team can win the series against England?
