In A Massive Move! Big-Dollar Tournament VIVO IPL 2018 To Be Broadcasted on Doordarshan

Here’s is something special for cricket fans! India’s premier cricket league IPL will soon be streamed on the national broadcaster, Doordarshan starting April 7, 2018.

Hack:

  • Star TV to share the rights with Doordarshan and will broadcast the opening and closing ceremonies of IPL along with one match every Sunday including the final.
  • Prasar Bharati will telecast the matches on DD Sports which is available on its free-to-air direct-to-home platform DD Free Dish
  • The move will boost IPL viewership as the matches will be accessible to people residing in rural areas.

After the announcement, the official handle of Prasar Bharati tweeted, “To bring Vivo IPL 2018 to a wider audience STAR TV has agreed to share with Prasar Bharati select matches on a one hour deferred live basis with 50-50 revenue sharing.”

In September 2017, Star India Private Ltd had bought the IPL media rights from 2018-2022 for a sum of Rs 16,347.50 crore.

While the media and entertainment company, Star India had won the tournaments global broadcasting and digital rights after managing to pip its rivals Bharti Airtel Ltd,  Jio, Sony Pictures Networks India, Facebook Inc and other big contenders.

In December 2017, Information and Broadcasting ministry had accepted the proposal of making India’s biggest professional Twenty20 cricket league live on the public broadcaster.

Meanwhile, Star India will share the live feed of the tournament with Doordarshan under the Sports Broadcasting Signals Act, 2007.

According to recent reports, there will be a 50:50 revenue sharing between Star India and Doordarshan to broadcast the upcoming season of VIVO IPL 2018.
