Warning from Assistant Secretary of WFI

Vinod Tomar, assistant secretary of WFI, said to Sportskeeda, “As you know, the camp started on 10th May. But these wrestlers did not report to camp. Neither did they intimate us why they were not joining the camp.”

“How can we tolerate this?” he asked.

Explaining the issue, Tomar said, “The problem which arises due to this is that the partners suffer. Each wrestler has a sparring partner with whom he or she trains.”

Justifying the Federation decision, Tomar added, “Now, when one of the partners does not show up, the other suffers. We can’t let that happen. That’s why we took this decision yesterday (Wednesday).”

Well, this comes as bad news for the Phogat sisters as now they could be barred from the Asian Games trials scheduled for later this month.

Further, this also means that their hopes of representing the nation in the Jakarta Palembang Games which is going to be held in Indonesia in August-September later this year are on the verge of being dashed.

What Babita Phogat said?

When asked about her absence, Babita said that the injury was the main reason behind her absence.

She said, “I didn’t receive anything from the federation. Yes, I haven’t joined that camp yet as I am recovering from injuries to both my knees,”

Later, she added, “I admit I haven’t informed the federation yet but I will send an application to them today itself.”

Interestingly, Babita said that her sister Geeta in Bangalore training at a private facility and she has doesn’t know why her sister has not joined the camp.

she said, “Geeta is in Bangalore. I thought she has joined the camp. I am also going to Bangalore for my rehab at the JSW facilities.”

Check Out the list of wrestlers who were axed from the national camp:
