West Indies: Vs World Xl T20: Shahid Afridi Says Good Bye To International Cricket, Receives Guard Of Honour At Lords

It was a great day at Lord’s as we saw the World T20 champs thrashing  Shahid Afridi’s World XI in the Hurricane Relief T20 fund on Friday. Meanwhile, it was a marvellous performance by the West Indies as they went on to score 199/4 in 20 overs as well as successfully they defended the target.

Whereas, the Trinidadian cricketer Evin Lewis scored 58 off just 26 balls to take his team to a perfect score of 199/4 in 20 overs. Later, the left-hander was also awarded the player of the match for his high-voltage performance.

Chasing a target of 200, openers Tamim Iqbal and Luke Ronchi failed to give the team a perfect start while IPL star Dinesh Karthik was also out for a duck. Though Thisara Perera made career-best 61 off just 37 balls he didn’t get any good partnership from the other-end as LaLa-led World XI kept on losing the wickets from the other end to be finally dismissed for 127 as the West-Indies had easily won the match.

ICC World XI who had won the toss and decided to bowl first against West Indies while their bowlers Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi took a wicket each and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan bagged two wickets. In the 2nd innings, their batsman failed to deliver as Windies bowlers script a 72-run victory over World XI.

To those who don’t know, ICC had requested cricketers from all over the world to come and play in this charity match in order to raise to raise funds and prepare stadiums which were destroyed by hurricanes.

Moreover,  we saw Pakistan’s former skipper Shahid Afridi leading the ICC World XI in his last international match. Well, you must remember that the all-rounder didn’t receive any form of farewell when he announced his retirement. Today was the day when we saw Boom Boom Afridi receiving the guard of honour.

Sharing his feelings on guard of honour, Afridi said, “That’s something I’ll never forget.”
He added, “For that to happen at the home of cricket, it’s massive. The cause was everything tonight, and to have been able to help, it’s fantastic”

“Thanks to everyone who came out and supported this,” Lala ended.

Further, we saw former England skipper Nasser Hussain on the ground as a commentator to have a light moment with Boom Boom when he asked him about any plans for a change in his decision.

To which the Pakistan legend replied, “No that’s it. You can see my situation with the injury.”

Well,  Shahid Afridi donated USD 20,000 to the Hurricane relief fund from his foundation while the other players donated their match fees to the charity.

Indeed, we are gonna miss Afridi!
