Sania Mirza Won’t Let Pregnancy Hold Her Back | Here She Reveals Her Plans About 2020 Olympics

Ace Indian tennis player Sania Mirza who had earlier announced her pregnancy to her fans on Twitter last month, recently, decided to share about her comeback and future career plans.

Speaking of the time when Sania came to know that she was going to be a mother, she said, “We were in Dubai and it just so happened that the whole family was together at that time. Actually, Shoaib had just finished a match and was at the ground. When I told him about it he was excited.”

Sania further said that it was an extraordinary feeling for her as being an athlete she is completely aware of her body.

The tennis star said,” Being an athlete, I’ve been in touch with my body a lot. I would know everything that happened to my body whether it was hurt or improved… but I wouldn’t ever imagine that I can grow another person inside me.”

Well! Sania had also mentioned that her baby’s surname would be Mirza-Malik and not just Malik.

Meanwhile, she also wants to set an example that pregnancy must not come in the way of their dreams.

“It was just about time… I was down with my knee injury anyway and we had been thinking about it for a while… We thought it was a good time to start a family and experience this new phase of our lives,” Sania said.

Earlier this year, 31-year-old tennis ace said that she had even missed the Australian Open as she is suffering from a condition called jumper’s knee due to which she had to miss the game for over six months.

On being asked whether her knee condition is better, Sania said,”It definitely is. I haven’t played since mid-October, so it has been a solid six months and more.”

She also said,”Rest was something everyone was recommending… So, I won’t say it’s perfect, but it’s better,”

Further, she also said that her career is a priority as soon as the pregnancy is done indicating that she has no plans yet to hang her boots.

Moreover, she said that she won’t let pregnancy hold her back to play tennis. She said,”It’s very empowering and is something that is part of being a woman and it’s something I always looked forward to… having a family… (I knew) tennis is something that will take a backseat eventually.”

Sayin that her goal is to make a comeback but at this moment her kid is very important in her life.

I would like to come back to playing because it’s an example I’d like to set for my kid as well that you don’t give up on your dreams just because you’re pregnant,” said the sportswoman.

On her comeback, Sania said,” I am young enough to come back and still play and be the best that I can be.”

Later, she also expressed her happiness over women athletes enjoying success at the global level as in India sports is not always considered as a first option for the profession.

The star athlete said,”It’s pretty incredible as we come from a culture where sports is not the first profession that people think of putting their child in… Things are obviously changing… There’s still a long way to go, but it has changed a lot, at least since I started playing tennis.”

We wish Sania Mirza makes a comeback soon and plays for India again.
