500 days left for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Check Out The 500 Runs Club

ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 countdown has begun, and there are only 500 days left for it. On this day we revisit batsmen who have scored in excess of 500 runs in the tournament.

Here is a lucrative list of 7 great cricketers who have been able to achieve the feat of scoring 500 runs:

  • Sachin Tendulkar- The Little Master is the only batsman who has amassed 500 runs twice at the ICC Cricket World Cup. In ICC Cricket World Cup 1996, he smashed 523 runs at an average of 87.16 in seven innings. The year 2003 turned out to be a worthwhile one for the veteran Indian cricketer as he scored around 673 runs in eleven innings.

  • Matthew Hayden– In the year 2007, Matthew Hayden scored around 659 runs; His sensational knocks proved crucial as Australia went on to win their third world cup title consecutively.

 

 

  • Mahela Jayawardene– Srilanka’s legendary batsman Mahela Jayawardene proved his worth as a captain when he led his team to the final with 548 runs in World Cup 2007.

  • Martin Guptill- The previous edition of the World Cup saw the New Zealand opening batsman score 547 runs including memorable knock of 237 runs in a single innings against West Indies.

 

  • Kumara Sangakkara– Former Srilankan cricketer Kumara Sangakkara created history in the year 2015 when he hit back-t0-back four centuries in the world cup which took his tally to 541 runs with an average of 108.2.

  • Ricky Ponting– With an average of 67.37 in nine innings the Australian skipper led his side to victory with a remarkable score of 539 runs.

  • Tillakaratne Dilshan- Tillakaratne Dilshan is the third Srilankan cricketer who has exactly scored 500 runs in the year 2011 to lead his side to final.
