No more swim-suits and Evening gowns for The 2019 Miss America Competitions. Yes, You’ve heard it right! On Tuesday Morning, Gretchen Elizabeth Carlson, the chairwoman of the Miss America board of directors appeared on Good Morning America to reveal some changes in the contest.
JUST IN: "We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance. That's huge. And that means we will no longer have a swimsuit competition." – @GretchenCarlson on the major changes coming to @MissAmericaOrg https://t.co/ICRIsRN71h pic.twitter.com/IWKcVvCC50

Announcing the abolition of the Miss America swimsuit competition, the former Miss America said, “We’ve heard from a lot of young women who say, ‘We’d love to be a part of your program but we don’t want to be out there in high heels and a swimsuit,’ so guess what, you don’t have to do that anymore.”
She supported the idea of not judging the contestants based on their physical appearance rather than the soul.
“Who doesn’t want to be empowered, learn leadership skills and pay for college and be able to show the world who you are as a person from the inside of your soul,” she said.
“That’s what contestants will be judged on now, We are no longer a pageant,” Carlson added.

Finally, the Miss America Organisation is all set to remove the notorious swimsuit competition of its annual competition which had begun nearly 97 years ago in Atlantic City, N.J.
After scrapping the outdated swimsuit part of the competition, the Miss America contestants from all 50 states and the District of Columbia will now be seen participating in a live interactive session with the judges.
Moreover, they will be asked to showcase their passion, intelligence, and understanding of Miss America’s job. Also, they need not wear an evening gown too. Well, the organization will now ask them to express their personal style in clothes.
Carlson who won Miss America in 1989 had gone to work in the media.
Indeed, it was a great move by Carlson to inspire young people to be part of the competition.
She said, “We are now open, inclusive and transparent and I want to inspire thousands of young people across this country to come and be a part of our program.
Now the newly led organization will emphasize its role as a scholarship provider.
She said, “We want you and we want to celebrate your accomplishments and your talents and then we want to hand you scholarships.”
After some major amendments, the 2019 Miss America competition will be held on September 9, 2018.
So, Are you in favor? And why or why not?
