Desi Boyz did a fantastic job by breaking the highest opening day record in the Hindi cinema with their movies. Previously, the record was held by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion which had collected over Rs 40 crore. While Gold and SMJ had earned about Rs 45 crore together.

Akshay’s Gold ranks for highest occupancy on 1st day

With 1st day occupancy of 52.5%, Gold is the 3rd highest opener of 2018 so far after Baaghi 2 and Sanju. According to BOI, Gold took the lead in circuits like Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, East Punjab and Mumbai, all credits to the huge fan base of Akshay Kumar.

John’s Satyameva Jayate is the highest opener for the A-rated movie

This is surprising, John’s Satyameva Jayate is the highest opener for an A-rated movie. Directed by Milap Zaveri, SMJ didn’t receive positive reviews from the critics but still managed to earn big on the 1st day.

Top openers of 2018

Gold and SMJ are the top 5 openers of 2018. Well, Gold is on the 3rd place with a whopping collection of Rs 25.25 crore while Satyameva Jayate stands at the 5th position with Rs 20.52 crore.

Directors also make it big

Milap Zaveri, who had earlier directed Sunny Leone’s Mastizaade and Jaane Kahaan Se Aayi Hai, got his biggest breakthrough in John Abraham starrer Satyameva Jayate. While Talaash and Honeymoon Travels director Reema Kagti finally made it big with Gold.

While movies like Padmaavat, Sanju and Baaghi 2 are among the highest grossing movie this year, it will be interesting to see whether Gold and Satyameva Jayate can topple these biggies from their position.
