What’s New In The Netflix’s Upcoming Baahubali Prequel Series

Whoa! Baahubali returns, Prabhas starrer Baahubali franchise which is easily the highest grossing movie franchises of all time will now get the Netflix treatment.

Netflix announces Baahubali Prequel Series

This is really a good news for all the Baahubali and Prabhas fans as the global blockbuster franchise will have a prequel series, titled Baahubali: Before the Beginning.

Announcing the series, Netflix talked about the huge impact of the franchise on the global level in an official statement, “Baahubali: the Conclusion grossed US$ 270 million at the global gross box office (including US$ 20 million at the US box office), and is the highest grossing film franchise from India.”

While Baahubali: The Beginning and its sequel Baahubali: The Conclusion garnered a lot of appreciation from everyone, the movie directed by veteran filmmaker S.S.Rajamouli broke several records at box-office too.

Also, Netflix has partnered with the team from the original Baahubali films which includes Arka Media Works and S.S. Rajamouli. While Deva Katta and Praveen Sataru will together direct the series.

On Thursday, the official Twitter handle of Netflix released the teaser of the much-awaited show and wrote, “You witnessed the Mahishmati Empire in all its glory. Now witness its rise. Baahubali: Before the Beginning coming soon.”

The Rise of Sivagami

While the 2 seasons for the show has been ordered so far, the season one of the series will comprise 9 episodes and is basically based on Anand Neelakantan’s book, The Rise of Sivagami which is a prequel novel to the 2015 film Baahubali: The Beginning.

Further, the series captures Queen Sivagami’s journey from a rebellious and vengeful girl to a wise and unequalled queen. Moreover, power, politic, and intrigue find themselves juxtaposed against the rise of Mahishmati – from being a city-state to an empire.

Now the series also promises to build on the incredible narrative style of the franchise which includes connective-epic story-telling,  high production values, and breathtaking visuals.

Prasad Devineni, Arka Media Works producer said, “We have been working for over a year now in developing this story, a prequel to the films as a Netflix original series.  We are happy to be partnering with Netflix to produce this amazing story.”

Meanwhile, Erik Barmack, Netflix VP of International Originals also talked about the series and shared his excitement to work with world’s most talented writers and producers.

 He said, “We are excited to work with some of the world’s most talented writers and producers on one of India’s most beloved stories. The series is a tremendous opportunity for us to give audiences more of the universe that they have come to love, and welcome millions more into the global Baahubali fandom.”

Netflix is currently the world’s leading internet entertainment service with 125 million members in over 190 countries.
