Not many people know that Mira Nair’s erotic period drama, Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love has become so popular worldwide. Well, the movie might have never released in India but it is one of the most watched trailers of all time on YouTube.
A new report by the website ScreenCrush explained about how the trailer for Spider-Man spin-off Venom has received more views than a trailer for any actual Spider-Man movie. Further, the report also includes a list of the most watched trailers of all time on YouTube.
According to the report, Kama Sutra is now the 3rd most watched trailer on YouTube with over 91 million views and is just behind the top-ranked ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ trailer which has got 202 million views while 2nd ranked ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ which has so far received 101 million views on YouTube. Further, it is ahead of ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey‘ which is now 4th on the list.
“No, that’s not a typo,” ScreenCrush’s Matt Singer said sarcastically, “a trailer for the 1996 Mira Nair film Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love has been viewed 91 million times.”
Matt, who is the managing editor and film critic of the website ScreenCrush.com, said, “I guess YouTube users just love Mira Nair! There’s really no other possible explanation.”
Another fun fact: The trailer for the 1996 Mira Nair film KAMA SUTRA: A TALE OF LOVE has been viewed 91 million times, making it the third biggest movie trailer in YouTube history, ahead of everything except #InfinityWar and #StarWars. YouTube loves Mira Nair!

Watch the 3rd most watched trailer:
The 1996 movie starred Indira Varma( who was seen in Game of Thrones), Naveen Andrews, Sarita Chaudhury and Rekha (in her English language debut) and was released on February 28, 1997, but was banned in India and Pakistan due to its erotic nature.
By far, the historical romantic drama is the cheapest movie on the list while the budget is approximately 1/100 of Avengers: Infinity War, which was produced for more than $300 million.
Moreover, it was really surprising to see that Kama Sutra is the only movie on the list which was not a blockbuster like billion-dollar franchises such as Star Wars and Jurassic World. Interestingly, it is not the only erotic film on the list.
