It’s September 5 and schools in India are celebrating the auspicious event of Teacher’s Day. “GururBrahma GururVishnu GururDevo Maheshwaraha. Guru Saakshaat ParaBrahma Tasmai Sri Gurave Namaha.” Well, this special sloka makes us realize the importance of Guru in our lives who liberates us from ignorance, superstition, unfounded fears, and irrational prejudices and impart us with knowledge, values and help us in achieving our dreams.

On this special days, let’s check out these 5 Bollywood movies which depict this student-teacher relationship in a beautiful way:

1. Hichki

Rani Mukerji stole all the limelight when she played the role of a teacher who overcomes Tourette syndrome, a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary and repetitive involuntary movements. Well, the movie Hichki which is based on teacher Brad Chen’s book Front of the Class displays the spirit of a teacher who decides to walk on a tough path, goes against all the odds to achieve success.

2. Iqbal

Iqbal is the story of a deaf and mute boy, Iqbal(Shreyas Talpade), and his relationship with mentor Mohit, played by Naseeruddin Shah who overcomes a lot of hardships  and realises his dream of playing for the national team. Well, the movie teaches us the art of never giving up even under tough circumstances.

3. Taare Zameen Par

Do you remember the cute little kid named Darsheel Safari from the movie Taare Zameen Par? The movie in which Aamir Khan was first time seen playing the role of a teacher. Well, the movie shares the story of Ishaan Awasti(Darsheel), a dyslexic 8-year-old kid and how his disability is overcomed by Nikumbh who brings fun and cheerfulness into the classroom.

4. Chak De India

Bollywood’s King, Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of a failed former captain of Indian hockey team who coaches the Indian hockey’s team to victory. Well, the movie which was a huge box-office hit displays Shah Rukh in a significant role and is a must-watch this Teacher’s day eho plays mentor to perfection. Indeed, Chak De India is a must watch on Teacher’s day.

5. 3 Idiots

The movie 3 idiots featuring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in leading role revolves around 3 engineering students- Rancho, who rebels against the system; Farhan, who attempts to commit suicide as he fears of failing in life while Raju, who wants to be a photographer is forced to take engineering under the influence of his parents. Well, the movie showcases the Indian mentality in which children are forced to take up subjects in which they are not at all inclined.
