Daler Mehndi charged for 2 years in Jail. What lies ahead for him

On Friday, renowned Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi was found accused in a 15-year-old case and was sentenced to two years in jail by the Patiala court. 

After getting convicted in a 2003 human trafficking case, the 50-year-old singer was also imposed with a fine of Rs 1,000.

However, he was later released on bail bond.

The singer further said,“I have been granted bail. We will appeal in higher court,”

As per the reports, Daler and his brother Shamsher— who died last year were found accused of illegally sending people abroad by disguising them as members of his troupe.

While the Patiala police had booked on a complaint filed by one Bakshish Singh.

Further, the complainants said that Daler Mehndi had taken money from him to help them migrate to the US illegally but that could never happen.

While the complainants also claimed that the accused had taken Rs 1 crore from them and have never returned them back their money.

Meanwhile, in the year 1998 and 1999, the brothers had taken two groups to US and had dropped them off illegally.

Further, Daler Mehndi in one of his trip to the US had dropped off three girls at San Fransisco. Surprisingly,  both the brothers had taken another troupe to the US in October 1999 in the company of some other actors when three boys were dropped off at New Jersey.

In 2006, Patiala Police had filed two discharge petitions and stated the singer was innocent but the court ordered that the singer should be summoned as there sufficient evidence against him on the judicial file and a thorough investigation can be conducted on him.
