BCCI nominates Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar for National Sports Awards | Can Kohli bag Khel Ratna?

It’s time to rejoice as BCCI has once again nominated Indian skipper Virat Kohli for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, which is the highest sporting honour of India. Moreover, Rahul Dravid has also been nominated for Dronacharya Award, an award for outstanding Coaches in Sports and Games, while veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is also recommended for Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award an award for the lifetime achievement sporting honour.

Virat Kohli’s in-your-face attitude should be followed with discretion, feels former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist.

Confirming Rahul Dravid’s nomination, CoA chief Vinod Rai said, “Yes, we have sent a number of nominations in various categories to the government. Rahul is the BCCI nominee for the Dronacharya award.”

Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid was nominated for leading the India U-19 team to World Cup title early this year. Further, the 45-year-old cricketer has also worked with India A team along with that he is the bridge between international and junior cricket.

It is being reported that BCCI had earlier stopped sending nominations for Dronacharya as there were many coaches who used to claim credit for the success of a cricketer.

A BCCI official said, “It happened when a former India opener had signed two nominations where coaches claimed that the player worked under them. From then, we had stopped sending nominations.”

Later, the official added, “However when Rajkumar Sharma (Kohli coach) got Dronacharya award, it was a personal nomination. He was not BCCI nominee. For someone of Rahul’s stature, we have decided to depart from convention.”

According to sources, Virat is being nominated by BCCI for the 2nd time.In 2016, Kohli’s name was recommended by the board but as it was the Olympic year, PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, and Deepa Karmakar were conferred with the award.

Virat Kohli who has 35 centuries and with 9588 runs in ODIs is currently the most dangerous batsman in all over the world.

Well! if Kohli can bag Khel Ratna this year then he will be become the 3rd cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni to win the prestigious award.

So, Do you think Kohli can achieve this feat?
