‘Dreams do come true’,
Well! Navjot Kaur, the 28- year old wrestler from Punjab has definitely struggled a lot to reach this stage of her life.
It was a long journey for her since her teachers advised her to take up wrestling at a young age.
Supported by her father, Navjot decided to take up wrestling as her career.
“He pushed both me and my sister Navjeet to wrestle, even when the other villagers would say this wasn’t something a girl did,” Navjot said.
While her hard work has been paid, finally.
As Navjot has become the first Indian woman to win gold at the Senior Asian Wrestling Championships held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

On Friday, the festival of Holi turned out to be a blessing for India as Navjot Kaur easily defeated Miya Imai from Japan with an easy 9-1 victory in the women’s 65kg category.
Further, the Asian Wrestling Championship turned out to be a good one for India after Sakshi Malik crushed Kazakhstan’s Ayaulym Kassymova of by 10-7.
While the 25-year old wrestler won the bronze medal in the 62 kg category in the same championship.
Apart from Navjot and Sakshi, Pinki and Vinesh Phogat have also bagged silver medals.
With this, India has bagged one gold medal, two silver medals, and a bronze medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships.
In 2011, Kaur was defeated in the semi-finals and could manage to win only a bronze medal.
In 2013, at the 2013 Wrestling World Cup, she fought hard and won bronze.
Later in Asian Wrestling Championships held in New Delhi, she bagged a silver medal.
While she had to again settle for bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
It’s a happy moment for Kaur’s family as after facing a lot of hurdles, her desire to win gold has finally come true.

Moreover, Kaur has surprised her critics with her extraordinary performance at the Asian Wrestling Championships.
