PM Narendra Modi Praises Women Athletes And Medal Winners Of The Commonwealth Games

It was one of the historic days of India when Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi took the opportunity to congratulate the women athletes along with the other medal winners of the Commonwealth Games at Lok Kalyan Marg.

Praises Athletes on Mann Ki Baat

While our honourable prime minister had earlier shared his views on the “excellent performances” by the athletes in CWG 2018 on his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat.

Praising  PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, Manika Batra, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, he said, “Our women athletes have made India very proud during this year’s Commonwealth Games.”

“Athletes participating in the Commonwealth Games hail from small towns across the country. Overcoming several challenges, they have achieved their goals today. Those who have encouraged and supported them, be it their parents, guardians, coaches, support staff, school, teachers or their friends – everyone has a contribution. I congratulate them and wish them all the best,” he added.

At the end of  Commonwealth Games, India had won around 66 medals that includes  26 gold medals which prove that this is  India’s third-best showing overall and second-best away from home.

Interacts With Sportspersons At Lok Kalyan Marg

While having interaction with the athletes at Lok Kalyan Marg PM Narendra Modi further appreciated those who could not win medals but had given their best. He also said that the performances of athletes are an inspiration for everyone.

Further, he said that good performances of the players at CWG on the global stage have raised the Indian flag. Meanwhile, PM also stressed on talent, training, concentration and hard work, mental toughness of the sportspersons to have a competitive edge over other players at the international level. He also said that Yoga is also beneficial for them in the current scenario.

Taking the example of Mary Kom, who won the gold medals even as she is Member of Parliament, Prime Minister motivated the sportspersons by saying that in today’s world life of a sportsperson can span several decades.

Later, he also requested the athletes to be in touch with the various Gurus, mentors, and teachers, who have guided them right from childhood.
