Boxing Queen Mary Kom Gifts India a Gold in Her debut at Commonwealth Games 2018

India’s golden run at Commonwealth Games 2018 continues as Indian boxer Mary Kom thrashed Kristina O’Hara of Northern Ireland in the women’s 45-48kg category.

Well! This is a great comeback for the 35-year-old Olympic bronze medalist when she had to face a huge disappointment after facing a defeat against Pinki Jangra during the trials at Glasgow, Scotland in 2014.

It is to be noted that this is the first time she has won a medal at Commonwealth Games after she failed to qualify for the prestigious event around four years ago.

Further, it was not an easy ride for Kom to win a gold medal in this event but the 22-year-old Northern Ireland boxer lacked experience against the five-time world champion which gave Indian boxing star an upper hand.

Later, Kom won 30-27, 30-27, 29-28, 30-27, 20-27  on a unanimous judges decision to make one of the greatest comebacks in Indian sports and gift India’s its 18th Gold at CWG.

Taking to Twitter, she wrote, ” Dedicated my #GC2018boxing Gold Medal to my 3 sons, Rechungvar, Khupneivar &Prince, calling me MAMA when r you coming home. I thank my coaches, support staffs, @BFI_official, @Media_SAI for believing in me #PunchMeinHaiDum.”

Moreover, Mary Kom in her last interview stated that it was impossible to stop when she is 100% fit and after this victory, she has definitely proved her worth.
