KKR captain announced! Dinesh Karthik to lead the Men in Purple in IPL season 11

After a lot of speculation, it seems that the SRK’s IPL franchise KKR is all set to choose their leader.

While the exit of Gautam Gambhir from the team had opened up the doors for many senior cricketers, in spite of that it was difficult for the two-time IPL winners to decide a perfect captain for the team.

Finally, on Sunday Dinesh Karthik was named as the skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the season 11.

Revealing the skipper on a TV show on Star Sports, Mysore said that they were looking for a major change ahead of the tournament who can fill the boots of Gautam Gambhir.

Earlier in January, KKR had bought the 32-year old batsman for Rs.7.4 crore at the IPL auction.

The wicket-keeper batsman has played 152 matches in 10 IPL seasons and has scored 2903 runs at 24.81 with 14 half-centuries.

Moreover, the cricketer has 26 stumpings and 88 catches under his name. With this, Karthik brings a lot of experience with him to the team.

Further, he has played for 5 different franchises including Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Gujarat Lions and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

On its official Twitter handle, KKR shared a video message of their new skipper,

Karthik said, “It’s a massive opportunity for me. Personally, I am very happy and excited because it’s a massive franchise.”

Expressing his gratitude for the team and the management, he said, “To have got the honour to lead the team. Thanks for investing faith in me,”

The new skipper further said that he aims to get the best out of the U-19 stars, who are part of the team.

Apart from that, Karthik appealed to the KKR fans to continue supporting the franchise.

After winning the IPL title twice in 2012 and 2014 under Gautam Gambhir, Dinesh Karthik has a tremendous responsibility to lead one of the successful teams of Indian Premier League.
