Sir Donald Bradman 110 Birth Anniversary: 5 Test Innings Which Makes Him A Cricket Genius

52 Tests, 6,996 runs, 29 centuries, 13 fifties, with an average of 99.94 are the records set by the legendary Australian batsman Sir Donald Bradman. Born on 27 August 1908 in Cootamundra, New South Wales Donald Bradman was popularly known as “The Don” among his fans.

Well, who would’ve thought this 20-year-old young boy who had made his Test debut against arch-rivals England in 1928 would play for almost 20 years. To those who don’t know Bradman lost some of the crucial years due to 2nd world war.

On Sir Donald Bradman’s 110 birth anniversary, let’s check out the 5 best Test innings of the legendary cricketer:

1. 299* v South Africa, 1932

Smashing a double century in the early 1930s was a difficult thing but Sir Donald Bradman’s 299* against South Africa proved that the Australian right-handed batsman is one of the dangerous cricketers in the cricket history. After winning the toss, South Africa won the toss and scored 308 while Bradman’s 299 not out helped Australia post a challenging total of 513. Well, the result at the end of the match was Australia won the match by 10 wickets.

2. 334 v England, 1930

While our era is a fan of Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle, during the 1930s it was Don Bradman who had scored a marvellous triple century against England. Well, the legendary batsman had smashed a perfect 334 which is something which current generation batsmen can hardly think of. Due to rain, England managed to escape with a draw.

3. 254 v England, 1930

Australia had been beaten in the 1st test match in Nottingham and in the 2nd Test match at Lord’s to England was looking strong when they scored 425 in the 1st innings when Don Bradman came out of nowhere and smashed 254 runs as Australia scored 729/6 declared. Finally, Australia went on to win the match by 7 wickets.

4. 103 v England, 1933

You might be shocked to know that 103 is the 2nd best innings of Donald Bradman. After winning the toss England was bowled out for 223 in the 1st innings While it was Don Bradman’s century which helped Australia post a total 242. Well, the result was Australia won the match by 5 wickets.

5. 270 v England, 1937

Don Bradman played one of the finest innings at MCG.  Well, Australia had declared the 1st innings after scoring 200/9 while the most shocking thing which had ever happened was that England had scored just 76/9d. Meanwhile, Bradman’s 270 helped Australia post 564 in the 2nd innings after which Australia scripted a historic 365 runs win over England.
