Yet Another Success Story of A IIT Student Emerging As The NATIONAL Topper in GATE’s Chemistry Paper

Diksha Saklani, a final-year student of MSc chemistry at IIT Roorkee has finally made it big in her life as she has clinched the top rank in her first attempt of GATE examinations, the results of which were announced recently.

Well! The is a dream come true for the IIT student who aspires to be a scientist as she claimed that she never went to any coaching classes or took tuitions while preparing for GATE.

GATE chemistry topper: Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee’s Diksha Saklani has emerged as the national topper in GATE’s chemistry paper, the results of which were announced recently.

For those who don’t know, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE) is an examination which is conducted by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and 7 Indian Institutes of Technology. While the scores acquired in the examinations are used for admissions to various postgraduate education programs.

Saklani, who clinched the top rank in her first attempt said that as she was always a  topper of her class as she relied on self-belief, hard work, and a planned schedule.

After clearing her graduation from Dehradun she cleared Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM) in 2016 to join IIT Roorkee.

She said,”Initially, I felt inferior to the other students since I hailed from a local place but then I decided to prove myself and my abilities.”

Meanwhile, she also advised the other exam aspirants to give emphasis on strengthening their basics rather than learning tricks and shortcuts.

Sharing her strategy for the examination, she said, “I first looked for the topics where I was not confident and tried to get a command on the concept underneath, especially in organic chemistry. I also solved the previous years’ papers to monitor my progress. I took help from all sources available: Teachers, friends and the internet.”

Her teacher KR Justin Thomas, an associate professor with the department of chemistry praised Saklani and labeled her as an “illustrative” student as well as the one who believes in overcoming  “negative vibrations by hard work and perseverance.”

Further, he said,”Within a short span of three months, she contributed significantly to the development of organic emitters capable of harvesting triple excitons in organic light-emitting diodes. This attests her commitment and devotion to learning newer concepts,”

The girl has also obtained the All India Rank 11 (JRF) in the CSIR NET chemistry exam held in June 2017 in her first attempt.

Saklani shared that, “I write poems whenever I am free. It gives me great satisfaction.”

Despite facing difficulties Disha decided to take a different path to achieve success. She is a perfect example for all the students and girls who achieve their dreams.
