The 20-year-old  freestyle wrestler has said that she is not going to ask for any support for herself as she feels that she has said enough and doesn’t want to be humiliated anymore. She has also cleared that there are many aspirants who want to achieve heights yet they never get enough support. She says that she doesn’t want anything for herself but she wants that the upcoming talented athletes must get enough support.

She said, ” There are many aspirants who are not able to make it big. I don’t want anything for myself but the upcoming talents must get the support, even if it is just pocket money so that they can make a name for themselves.”

Divya added, “When athletes get government support, parents also feel that their kids can stand on their own feet and support better.”

She complained and said that Delhi athletes are not respected and do not get proper support and people say that Delhi players don’t bring enough medals.

She revealed a shocking fact that she has received no money for the Commonwealth Games bronze medal.

“We don’t even receive our pocket money on time. I am yet to receive the money for Commonwealth Games bronze medal also. Had I got even that, I would have been happy,” she said.

Moreover, she said, “I don’t care about the politics but at least they can congratulate us on our wins. Athletes are not respected in Delhi.”

Hurt by the lack of support from the government, Divya said that she will believe the government only when she gets something. She said that after the Commonwealth Games she was provided with a lot of support till the Asian Games but it’s already 4 months since her pleas have been heard.

She spoke about athletes from Haryana, who are now shining in the Asian Games after they received support from Delhi government.

“Just see how many Haryana athletes have won because they have support,” she spoke to the chief minister.

What Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said

Now Delhi CM revealed that “There were several shortcomings in the sports policies of Delhi government. We have made several efforts to reform them since coming to power. You read in newspapers how obstructions are created in our work. All our policies were stopped at the higher level for one or the other reason,”

Also, Arvind Kejriwal said that his government was taking decisions on administrative matters only after the recent Supreme Court verdict which upheld the Delhi government’s power to authorize and govern on key issues. Further, he has announced a hike in cash prizes for medal winners.

Kejriwal added, “The announcement we made today is because of the Supreme Court judgement. It would have not come without the Supreme Court verdict.”

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had announced to amend its policy and enhance cash incentives for medal winners at international events.

He said that the gold medal winners at the Asian Games will now be given Rs 1 crore instead of Rs 20 lakh.

Moreover, the chief minister said that silver medal winners at the Asian Games will now get Rs 75 lakh in place of Rs 14 lakh while the bronze medal winners will get Rs 50 lakh in place of Rs 10 lakh.

So, let’s see whether the Delhi government follow what they are claiming now.
