1. Born in Ziguinchor, Senegal, Aliou has earlier played for English Premier League club Birmingham City and later Portsmouth.
2. Cisse was the captain of the popular Senegal side which surprised everyone in the year 2002 by defeating France, who were the winners of the World Cup in 1998.
3. He was also the part of the Senegal team who were the runners-up in the 2002 African Cup of Nations, also he won 35 caps for the Lions of Teranga, before retiring in 2005.
4. Moreover, the former Senegalese international is the 1st person who has been the Captain and Coach of the Lions of Teranga (Senegal).
5. He also played in Ligue 1 with Montpellier, PSG, and Lille.
6. He used to play as a defensive midfielder and on occasion, played at centre back.
7. At the age of 42, he is the youngest head coach at 2018 world cup.
