8 Mistakes To Avoid During UPSC IAS Preparation

It is a dream for lakhs of students to crack the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Exam yet only a handful could make through in the end. While for many students, this is going to be their first attempt, but for some other people, this will be their 2nd, 3rd or 4th attempt.

 

Well, the examination is one of the toughest in India but it can be cracked with strong determination and hard work. Meanwhile,  let’s check out these 8 mistakes which one must avoid during UPSC IAS Preparation:

1. Confusion related to coaching

Well, a lot of aspirants think that they need to go to coaching while some think that going to coaching will be a waste of time and money. However, there is no perfect formula to crack the examination, one needs to take the decision as per their own needs.

2. No proper planning

We all know that one can never achieve success without a proper planning. So it is important to understand that there should be no mistakes while making plans. Well, you must have small and achievable plans which will help you in enhancing your confidence.

3. Begin with a heavier stuff

It is a well-known fact that our willpower decreases as the day progresses. Well, you must begin your preparation with the heavier stuff which usually requires more concentration power.

4. Not preparing the 3 stages with seriousness

A lot of UPSC students put all their focus on the Mains examination and in this process, they forget that the 3 stages- Prelims, Mains, and Interview need to be taken seriously. In many situations, top candidates get eliminated in the interview round.

5. Using multiple sources

There is no doubt on this fact that UPSC Syllabus is too vast and one needs to use a lot of resources to cover the syllabus. But one must understand that it would be a mistake to refer to many sources, just for a single topic.

6. Lack of practice and spending too much time on newspapers

It is correctly said, “Practice makes a man perfect.” Without practice, cracking the examination or an IAS Interview is basically next to impossible. Moreover, spending a whole day on newspapers is not a good choice, isn’t it?

7. Being too nervous

Yes, it is the important phase of your life and it is nothing wrong in being nervous but letting that feeling affect your performance in the examination will definitely cloud the way you think.

8. Overconfident

There is a thin line between confidence and overconfidence and there are some candidates who become overconfident because of their academic performance in mock tests. Well, it important to be confident for the UPSC exam but being arrogant can cost you a lot in the long-run.
